Obscure America
Love in Gasparilla Island
About four years ago I went on assignment to tell a story about love in America. It was for my former employer Obscure America, a boutique magazine out of Idaho—you’ve probably never heard of it.
At any rate, my editor, Marsha, canned it. Said it was “No good.” Said it was “inappropriate.” That I needed to “get a life.”
I always thought she had a thing for me, and her shelving this piece kind of felt like some kind of retribution.
Well, I stumbled upon the cut recently, and while I may be contractually forbidden to share it, I think it’s worth putting out there.
I do hope you enjoy it, and if you could, share it out far and wide.
I’d like for that old hag Marsha to see this thing spread around.
